Im starting a new business and I am looking for an investor. Since, I do not want to raise money from my family, I would like an angel investor to invest. What should I expect an angel investor to invest in a new business? Im expecting around 50 lakhs to 1 crores in investment.

Nepalese angel investors typically invest during pre-seed, seed, or Series A rounds. Although they may be found to invest in higher rounds of fundraising, that is Series B and above, it is common that they invest for a much lower ticket size that than the other investing parties in such rounds.

A good expectation to have from a single Nepalese angel investor in light of business traction and the founding team is:

  • Pre-seed - NPR 5-20 lakhs
  • Seed - NPR 20-50 lakhs
  • Series A - Upto NPR 1 crore
  • Series B and above - Not enough examples but the expectation could be set to be upto NPR 2.5 crores

Please note that these numbers are based upon my personal understanding of the general Nepalese angel investors' risk appetite combined with the knowledge of the actual sales volume of different startups in the Nepalese market.

So, if you're looking to raise 50 lakhs to 1 crore in funding and are having a hard time doing so, it might be a good idea to raise funds from two/three different angel investors and ask them to split their investment in capital ratios suitable to their investment capacities.
